My exposure to counseling began as a young child getting to know my school counselor. She instilled hope in kids each and every day. She provided a safe and nurturing environment where kids could be kids. The valuable lessons she taught are still with me today.

After graduating from a small town, south of San Antonio, I attended Texas A&M University in College Station. I majored in Interdisciplinary Studies which lead me to teaching 1st graders and PK-6th grade English As a Second Language students in several school districts across Texas.

While being an educator was near and dear to my heart, I knew that I was ready to continue my education in Counseling. I attended Wayland Baptist University where I received my Masters in Counseling. I completed an internship working for the SCUCISD Family Support Center where I worked with children, teens, families, and marriages.

While completing my masters degree, I had the opportunity to travel abroad with Focus on the Family to educate counselors on counseling techniques.  I also had the opportunity to present at the annual Texas Counseling Association conference on Mind Mapping.

After 15 years in education, and 7 of those as a school counselor, I loved getting to support students, families, and staff. I targeted the whole child, not only academically but socially and emotionally as well.

Being able to offer counseling services to individuals, couples, and families in a private practice setting has allowed me to help others on a whole new level. Something I am passionate about. I am currently trained in Brainspotting Level 2 and Gottman Marriage/Couples Counseling Level 3.

I praise you for considering this journey and I look forward to providing you with a safe and caring environment where you can flourish, find solutions, discover peace, and live in balance as an individual, couple, or family.

I am a caring professional therapist with a background in counseling and have fourteen years of experience. I have worked with individuals of all ages, ranging from 3 to 70. I have practiced individual and group counseling with a focus on families. I use a holistic approach to counseling, focusing on the mind, body, and spirit.

I work with children and adults. I provide a safe place where it is confidential to work out problems individually or as a family.

I am a great listener, patient, positive, and kind. I feel that humor is an important aspect in everyday life.

I can provide therapy that customizes what you need, offer support, guidance and confidentiality.

I feel counseling is a collaboration relationship between patient and counselor. I feel a counselor acts as a guide for the individual and facilitates change.  I like to help people progress in their journey to healing. I enjoy helping people grow and develop into their full potential.

More about me: I like to read, play with my dogs, spend time with my family, and watch Netflix.

Hi! My name is Carlos.  I appreciate the seriousness of this step you are taking in finding help and meaning.  Opening up to share your vulnerabilities and hopes should not be taken lightly.  I'm a firm believer of the individual’s ability for change.  Furthermore, I believe that a strong professional relationship between the client and counselor is key to therapeutic success, and that this relationship is best fostered through an atmosphere of professionalism, trust, collaboration, and respect.

I am a Licensed Professional Counselor and Army veteran whose professional therapeutic experience has centered on working with traumatized adults and children of all ages and their families. Primarily within judicial and community organizations, I have worked with clients living with depression, anxiety, trauma, addiction, domestic violence, familial conflict, childhood behavioral challenges, and environmental hardships.

I work with individuals, couples, and families of all ages and backgrounds.  I enjoy connecting, and helping others help themselves.

In having worked as an early childhood therapist and within assisted living facilities I have gained a great appreciation for how our experiences impact onto the quality of our lives.  The past is important in understanding why we are in our present condition, as well as our strengths and weaknesses.  Knowing this can help support you in building a plan for the future.

I can provide therapy that helps one to understand how thinking and feeling impacts onto his or her quality of life.  Once this can be identified, I want to further collaborate with the client towards testing reality in gaining the changes necessary for more resilient living.

I feel counseling is another platform for gaining self-awareness and perspective on the world and others.  I do not think of myself as having the answers for others.  I think of myself as having the professional training and permission to help others clarify what it is they want and need.

More about me: I have been with my wife for 27 interesting years and we are going strong.  We have two children that we enjoy.  The military has been a way of life for us.  I enjoy spending time with my family outdoors and completing home projects.

Hello, my name is Tanya Johnson and I am a Licensed Professional Counselor. I am also a Certified School Counselor with a Master’s degree from Our Lady of the Lake University in San Antonio. I currently work full time as an educator with military students in grades 6-12 at Lackland AFB. I have spent time volunteering for Poderosa Rising, a women’s empowerment organization and with the LBGTQIA+ population assisting with anxiety, identity, and acceptance.

I work with children 8 years old through adults, couples, and integrate small group psychoeducation. I provide therapy that allows clients to heal holistically. I provide an empathic environment in which an individual feels safe being open to creating and achieving goals while being able to process the emotions involved with these changes. I utilize a variety of approaches with Solution Focused and Person  Centered being at the top of the list. For couples, I am Level 1 Gottman trained and utilize Gottman Couples Therapy techniques to heal relationships.

I feel counseling is a path to discovery and change; a means to improve YOU! As a clinician, I feel it is important to help my client see that our time together is a stepping stone to discovering ways to continue moving forward in a positive direction and reveal new parts of ourselves that we may not have found without help.

I am great at listening, helping, and advocating for the rights of others to live comfortably in their lives and heal from the external judgements that use to confine them.

More about me: When I am not at work, I am usually in a gym with one of my children cheering them on at one of their various sporting events or spending time with my family. I love to travel, watch a great series with my husband, or read an exciting thriller.

Hello, my name is Melissa and I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker. I received my master’s degree from Texas State University and have worked with children and families since 2016. I have been very fortunate to serve in different settings that have allowed me the opportunity to learn and grow as a professional. I work full-time with UT Health Science Center San Antonio and am grateful for the chance to work with you.  My experience includes working with children and adolescents on probation and in juvenile detention centers, immigrant and unaccompanied minors, school-based services, community counseling, and adults in hospice. También ofrezco servicios de terapia en Español.

I am passionate about my work with children and adolescents. Most of my experience is working with individuals five years old to young adults. I aim to provide an open, safe, and joyful environment to learn and grow. I am a certified clinical sand tray therapist and have training in trauma-focused cognitive behavioral therapy, unified protocol for the treatment of mood disorders, and other modalities. However, I believe that the best approach to therapy is one of support, non-judgmental listening, and a strong therapeutic alliance.

In my opinion, counseling is an opportunity to get to know yourself more and develop areas that need developing while cherishing and accepting the full self throughout. I believe in working as a team to create, develop, and reach goals and helping individuals to become their favorite version of themselves. I believe that therapy can be fun and allow for creative expression and that you are the expert in your life. My role is to help guide, teach, and support your efforts.

More about me: In my free time I enjoy reading, dancing, live music, working out, and discovering new places to eat.  I love traveling and immersing myself in the culture that surrounds me. I have 4 dogs that keep my husband and me very busy. I like to believe our two weenie dogs count as one since they are so small, my husband disagrees.

As an LPC Associate, I work with adult individuals navigating a wide range of challenges, with a focused clinical emphasis on trauma and PTSD, including military and veteran-specific experiences. I also specialize in grief and loss, including traumatic grief, bereavement, and the emotional transitions surrounding end-of-life care. In addition, I support clients exploring identity and life transitions, women’s issues, and LGBTQIA+ and multicultural concerns, while prioritizing relational health and healing attachment wounds.

My approach integrates EMDR, Internal Family Systems (IFS), Cognitive Processing Therapy (CPT), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), Reiki, and existential exploration. I work from a holistic, bottom-up lens, helping you move beyond surface-level symptoms to gently address the deeper roots of distress.

I believe meaningful healing requires both courage and unwavering support. In our work together, I create a safe, culturally attuned, and nonjudgmental space where you can show up fully as yourself. I bring authenticity, courage, and curiosity into the room, partnering with you to build resilience, deepen self-understanding, and reconnect with your sense of agency and belonging. My hope is that you leave each session feeling seen, supported, and empowered to step more fully into your story.

Outside of the office, I recharge through movement, time in nature, and meaningful community. I’m an avid runner and hiker, love reading fiction and gathering with my local book club, and stay engaged in social justice initiatives. I believe the work of healing and equity extends beyond the therapy room.
